Voting is a fundamental right. Yet voters with disabilities face persistent barriers to casting a ballot.

Fortunately, these barriers can be challenged under Section 208 of the Voting Rights Act of 1965 (VRA), which requires that states allow people with disabilities to receive assistance in the voting process.

The Southwest Harbor woman was growing up in Florida when she heard about the League of Women Voters trying to get people who were convicted of felonies a right to vote. When she talked to them, she was all in.

That’s because when she talked to them, she thought of her own father.

LWV of the US and LWV of Maine issued the following statement in response to the Maine Secretary of State’s decision declaring former President Trump ineligible to be listed as a candidate on the state’s 2024 presidential primary ballot.
