In 2008, 6 million Americans told the U.S. Census Bureau that they hadn't voted because they either didn't know how to register or missed the deadline. Thus the idea for a national day of action to encourage citizens to register to vote was born.
Today, Sept. 24, volunteer groups throughout the country, including the League of Women Voters, will hold the second National Voter Registration Day.
