League of Women Voters Pleased with Voter I.D. Ruling

To the Editor:

The League of Women Voters of the Northwoods is pleased with the Oct. 9 United States Supreme Court emergency ruling blocking the implementation of Wisconsin’s voter photo ID for the Nov. 4 election.

While it is not a final ruling on the merits of the voter ID case, it is clear the Justices on a 6-3 vote thought that it was unfair to change election procedures and begin to require photo ID when the process had already begun. Clearly there was not enough time for election officials to educate voters, prepare new materials, and implement the law.

We should seek ways to ensure that every eligible citizen can vote in our elections. This is a victory for all Wisconsin voters!
