OPINION: It’s Time to Strengthen the Voting Rights Act

Forty-nine years ago the Voting Rights Act was signed into law. The act was a cornerstone achievement that ensured that every American citizen, regardless of race or language, had equal access to the right to vote. In June 2013, the U.S. Supreme Court gutted a key part of the act, leading to a full frontal attack on the voting rights of all Americans.
