League Statement on Keystone Pipeline Moving Forward

Press Release / Last Updated:

Washington, DC – The League of Women Voters president, Chris Carson, issued the following statement after President Trump signed executive actions to advance the construction of the Keystone XL and Dakota Access oil pipelines.

"Today President Trump has let the American people down by signing executive actions to move forward with the Keystone XL pipeline. This pipeline will significantly contribute to climate change, promote a bad energy policy and endanger the health and well-being of America’s heartland. Today, the Trump Administration stood up for big polluters and special interests. TransCanada’s Keystone XL pipeline is not in the best interest of our nation. Approving this project is a step in the wrong direction for the United States towards our goals of reducing greenhouse gasses and protecting public health."

Today, big polluters won and the American people lost."
