WASHINGTON — To mark the beginning of the 119th Congress, the League of Women Voters of the United States President Dianna Wynn and CEO Celina Stewart issued the following joint statement:
“As the 119th Congress convenes, we welcome new and returning members who will lead and shape our nation’s federal laws and policies over the coming congressional session.
“This is a historic time for our democracy. While our politics may be divided, we look to this Congress’ leaders to exemplify what bipartisan cooperation looks like and move forward in service to the American people. Despite our differences, America’s founding principles of freedom and justice can continue to bring us together.
“This Congress has the chance to bring important leadership to this moment, honor the diverse voices of the American people, govern fairly, and lead with truth and integrity. The League of Women Voters looks forward to working with this new Congress and prioritizing the issues that impact our democracy and our citizens most.”
