Obama Administration Names Presidential Commission on Election Administration Members

Press Release / Last Updated:

The following is a statement by Elisabeth MacNamara, President, League of Women Voters of the United States:

“Today, President Obama named members to the Presidential Commission on Election Administration. While we remain disappointed by the President’s response to improving our elections to date, we hope that today’s action means that the commission will be able to get to work on behalf of this nation’s voters.

“The League once again calls on the President and this new commission to make some bold changes like those suggested in our four point plan to make elections free, fair and accessible. We would like to see secure online voter registration, permanent and portable statewide voter registration, expanded early voting, and improved polling place management.

“This is a weak response to a big problem. We need bold action to protect Americans from the risk of disenfranchisement. We hope this commission will set forth a proactive agenda that tackles real problems plaguing our elections.”
