As we wrap up this year, I’m reflecting on some of our greatest successes of 2024. From unprecedented voter outreach to the launch of a new moonshot campaign to the return of an important state League, there’s so much to celebrate! 

League of Women Voters, defunct for four years, relaunches two months before elections.

Today, the League of Women Voters of Nevada (LWVNV) announced the official re-launch of the state League with a distinct focus on diversity, equity, and inclusion.

From January – August 2023, state legislatures nationwide passed various bills into law. While following these developments, the League noticed several important trends around voting rights and election administration.

Illinois, Nevada, and Virginia filed a lawsuit to compel the Archivist of the United States to recognize and complete the ratification of the Equal Rights Amendment.  

Today the League of Women Voters of the United States board of directors took steps to withdraw recognition of the League of Women Voters of Nevada.

Voters voting by mail in 46 states are at risk of being disenfranchised due to delays with the US Postal Service.

The coronavirus outbreak has caused disruption for redistricting reform in states where groups have attempted to use the ballot initative process to reform the redistricting process. 

The League of Women Voters of the United States filed a friend of the court brief in the federal case that supports ratifying the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) as completed by the states of Virginia, Illinois, and Nevada.

A federal judge ruled that the deadline to collect signatures should be extended for Fair Maps Nevada’s ballot initiative petition due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
