League Recognizes National Women’s Health Week

Blog / Last Updated:

It is National Women’s Health Week– and groups around the nation are taking a moment to recognize the importance of women’s health, and the impact the Affordable Care Act has had in advancing and improving women’s health.

Earlier this year, opponents of the Affordable Care Act (or ACA) launched a new attack on women’s access to birth control, and our supporters took action and sent thousands of messages to Congress in opposition to these attacks. Through online advocacy, and letters to the editor published in local papers throughout the country, we were part of the effort that successfully defeated the Blunt Amendment, thereby protecting women’s access to reproductive health care!

Additionally, Leagues across the country have taken an active role in helping to educate citizens in their communities about the benefits of the Affordable Care Act, as well as working to implement the law so it works for our families and communities.

National Women’s Health Week provides a good reminder to reflect back on the hard work the League has undertaken to advance quality, affordable health care, as well as the work yet to do be done.
