“A push is on to register young voters across parts of northeast Michigan. The League of Women Voters of Alpena County has received a small grant to register young voters in Alcona, Alpena, Montmorency and Presque Isle counties.”

 Barbara Schilling, member of the League of Women Voters of the Calumet Area (IN): “I didn’t think there were any concerted efforts to register high school students in our area, so the LWVCA decided to take on this challenge.” They registered 45 students that day!
 

“The state's [WI] top election official said Tuesday he told the state Department of Justice he did not want to immediately appeal two decisions blocking the state's new law requiring photo IDs at the polls because voters should have plenty of advance knowledge of what rules will be in place for the April 3 election. ... Republican Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen did not heed that request and on Thursday appealed both decisions.”

 On Monday, a Dane County (WI) judge denied a motion to delay his voter ID ruling that bars enforcement of the state voter ID law.
 

“After nine hours of passionate debate, the Minnesota House early Wednesday morning, March 21, passed a Republican-sponsored constitutional amendment to require voters to show a government-issued photo identification at the polls.”

“Betsy McBride of the League of Women Voters, said, ‘If an ultrasound procedure is not medically necessary, the Legislature should not require that a doctor or an ultrasound technologist perform such a procedure against the will of the patient. … There is no legitimate reason to endorse this bill, which is an assault on Idaho women’s right to privacy.’”

[State Rep.] Mundy noted that many organizations, including the League of Women Voters, the American Association of Retired Persons and the County Commissioners Association of Pennsylvania oppose House Bill 934. ‘This bill has been mislabeled,’ Mundy said. ‘It's not a voter identification bill. It's a voter suppression bill that will deny many of our citizens their most fundamental right in a Democratic society.’”
