WASHINGTON — Today, the American Library Association (ALA) and League of Women Voters announced a new partnership to educate and empower voters in 2024. The collaboration is part of ALA’s recently launched Reader. Voter. Ready. campaign, which aims to equip libraries to engage with voters.
Local libraries and state and local Leagues have long worked together to cohost voter registration, educational programs, and candidate forums. Many libraries promote the League's online voter information tool, VOTE411.org. The collaboration between the national organizations will expand those connections and generate new resources, including a forthcoming toolkit to support collaboration at the local level.
ALA and the League will host a webinar, "League of Women Voters and America's Libraries: Partners to Count On," on May 29, from 2:00 – 3:00pm ET. The webinar is open to all and will highlight the experiences of library/League partners, with actionable ideas and key learnings from their work together. Click here to register.
“Leagues and libraries have a rich history of partnership, working together to serve their communities through education, outreach, and civic engagement,” said Alma Couverthie, chief of programs and interim co-CEO at the League of Women Voters of the United States. “The League is pleased to collaborate with the American Library Association to provide nonpartisan elections resources to ensure voters can confidently make their voices heard at the polls."
"The League of Women Voters and ALA share a strong commitment to civic participation and a history of community trust across the nation, said Emily Drabinski, president of the American Library Association. "Joining forces at the national level will enable us to scale decades of educating and empowering voters at the local level."
The new resources will be jointly hosted by ALA and LWV and available to all library and League supporters.
