League Encouraged by U.S. Senate Vote on Keystone XL Pipeline

Washington, DC - “Today’s vote in the U.S. Senate not to force approval of the Keystone XL Pipeline is encouraging. It is a decision that puts the health and safety of Americans ahead of blind reliance on fossil fuels,” said Elisabeth MacNamara, President of the League of Women Voters of the U.S.

“The Keystone XL Pipeline is a threat to the safety of our drinking water, promotes a bad energy policy and increases the greenhouse gases in our atmosphere that contribute to climate change. It is not in our national interest.

"Today, the U.S. Senate stood up for people, not polluters. We call on President Obama to follow through and disapprove the pipeline project in order to protect the health and safety of all Americans,” concluded MacNamara.
