U.S. House of Representatives Approves Keystone XL Pipeline

Press Release / Last Updated:

“Presidential veto of harmful legislation needed to protect Americans and climate.”

Washington, DC - “With a vote by the U.S. House of Representatives today, legislation to approve the Keystone XL pipeline now heads to the President’s desk,” said Elisabeth MacNamara, President of the League of Women Voters of the U.S.

“It is time for President Obama to follow through on his promise to veto this misguided legislation,” MacNamara said.

“Nothing – particularly America’s overreliance on fossil fuels – should be more important than the health and well-being of Americans and our environment,” said MacNamara.

“This pipeline threatens the safety of our drinking water and increases the greenhouse gases that contribute to climate change. We call on President Obama to veto the Keystone XL legislation without delay,” concluded MacNamara.
