Jefferson City, MO — The League of Women Voters of Missouri praised a Sept. 25 judicial decision overturning the Secretary of State’s deceptive ballot language for a reproductive freedom initiative.

WASHINGTON – Today the League of Women Voters of the United States CEO Virginia Kase Solomón issued the following statement in response to the House reintroduction of the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act: 

WASHINGTON – The League of Women Voters is set to reach over 100,000 voters this year for the civic holiday of National Voter Registration Day. National Voter Registration Day is recognized every year during the third week of September, as a nonpartisan civic holiday where organizations come together to register hundreds of thousands of voters on a single day.  Since the inception of NVRD in 2012, the League has been the largest on-the-ground partner.   

HARRISBURG, PA — Yesterday, the League of Women Voters of Pennsylvania (LWVPA) filed an amicus brief in Public Interest Legal Foundation v. Schmidt, a case before the US Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit, urging the court to reject an attempt to disclose personal information of voters to a third-party, private group. The League is represented by Morgan, Lewis & Bockius LLP.

Helena, MT — On Wednesday, September 6, 2023, the First Judicial District issued a partial preliminary injunction to prevent enforcement of House Bill 562 (“HB 562”). AUSTIN, TEXAS - A federal court ruled late last week in favor of civil rights groups who filed a lawsuit against anti-voter legislation, Senate Bill 1. The lawsuit, filed in 2021 by the Texas Civil Rights Project, American Civil Liberties Union, the ACLU of Texas, Asian American Legal Defense and Education Fund, Disability Rights Texas, and the law firm Jenner & Block LLP, argued that the law’s mail-in ballot identification matching provisions violate federal law. 

Washington, DC — Today, the League of Women Voters of South Carolina (LWVSC) filed an amicus–or friend of the court–brief along with the Gullah Geechee Chamber of Commerce, the Charleston Branch of the Association for the Study of African American Life and History, and the Circular Congregational Church in the case Alexander v. South Carolina State Conference of the NAACP, which will be heard by the US Supreme Court on October 11, 2023. The case is on appeal after a three-judge district court struck down South Carolina’s congressional map as an unconstitutional racial gerrymander.
