This week, the ACLU of New Jersey, the League of Women Voters of New Jersey, and 28 partner organizations filed a friend-of-the-court brief in support of community trust policies enacted by Newark, Jersey City, Paterson, and Hoboken. These policies limit voluntary collaboration between municipal agencies and federal immigration enforcement. The brief argues that community trust policies promote the safety, health, and welfare of all residents, regardless of immigration status.

Weber, the U.S. Department of Justice’s case against the California Secretary of State, to protect the data of all California voters and prevent misuse of that data, which could harm California communities.
League of Women Voters of Indiana, Common Cause Indiana, Hoosier Asian American Power, and Exodus Refugee Immigration, have filed a lawsuit against the Indiana Secretary of State and the Co-Directors of the Indiana Election Division challenging several Indiana laws that target only naturalized citizens—not people born as citizens—with unnecessary burdens and potential disenfranchisement. 
The League of Women Voters of Minnesota, Common Cause, and two Minnesota voters filed a motion to intervene in United States of America v. Simon. This lawsuit was brought by the Department of Justice in an unlawful attempt to force Minnesota Secretary of State Steve Simon to turn over extensive and protected Minnesota voter information to the federal government.

The case is part of the Trump administration’s broader effort to compel states to turn over their full voter registration databases, including with sensitive personal information such as partial Social Security and driver’s license numbers.
