Election Reform

We applaud President Biden for elevating the need for the For the People Act and we urge him to use the full weight of the presidency to see this bill become law.

League of Women Voters of the United States CEO Virginia Kase issued the following statement in response to the US House of Representatives passing HR1, the For the People Act.

The U.S. House of Representatives introduced H.R. 1, the For the People Act, a sweeping democracy reform bill that was first introduced in 2019.

The League submitted comments to the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights as part of its ongoing assessment of federal enforcement of the Voting Rights Act (VRA).

League set agenda for the next biennium and elected unanimously Chris Carson of Burbank, California as the organization's 19th national president.

"The League is pleased to have the power of the presidency behind reforms that lower barriers to voters and help us work toward a more perfect democracy," said President MacNamara.

The League was pleased to join dozens of voting rights advocates, state and local elections officials, congressional staff and academics at last week’s 2015 Voting and Elections Summit in Washington D.C.

Today, after months of relentless attack ads and millions of dollars in dark money campaign spending, American voters are casting their ballots and making their voices heard.

This morning, the Presidential Commission on Election Administration will present their report to the Senate Rules and Administration Committee. We urged consideration of a 5-point reform agenda.
