LWVUS joined the Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights calling on the US Senate to move the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act forward for debate.

League President Dr. Deborah Ann Turner and CEO Virginia Kase sent the following memo to President Biden and his administration following the 2020 election.

The League joined an ERA Coalition sign-on letter to the US Attorney General urging him to direct the Office of Legal Counsel to withdraw its 2020 memo on the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA).

LWVUS joined an amicus brief in support of plaintiffs in Whole Women's Health v. Jackson, a case before the US Supreme Court challenging a recently enacted Texas law that severely limits abortion services and deputizes private individuals to enforce the law.

Wednesday, Oct. 20, the Freedom to Vote Act came up for its first ever vote on the Senate floor. However, the bill failed to reach the 60-vote threshold needed to move forward, hitting a procedural roadblock on its way to protecting our democracy and expanding the voting rights of every American.

While words are great, President Biden must now do everything in his power to get the Freedom to Vote Act over the finish line and restore the full protections of the Voting Rights Act.
