DC statehood is critical to our democracy, and support for DC statehood means allowing the people of DC to be fully represented and have their voices heard. 

The Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) is a critical, life-saving program that targets and serves the most vulnerable households, including older Americans, individuals with disabilities, and families with young children.

LWVUS joins a letter to the US Attorney General requesting an update on the development of a public national law enforcement accountability database, as mandated by President Biden's Executive Order on Advancing Effective, Accountable Policing and Criminal Justice Practices to Enhance Public Trust and Public Safety.

LWVUS submitted public comment to the US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) in the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) on the proposed rule to adjust certain immigration and naturalization benefit request fees. The League opposed increases in immigration application fees, articulating the impact it will have on immigrants' ability to reunite and stay with family members abroad, live and work permanently in the US, and attain US citizenship.

 

LWVUS joined nearly 650 other groups on a letter to House and Senate agriculture committee leadership urging that they protect investments in climate-smart agriculture and conservation in the Farm Bill.

LWVUS joined 7 other organizations in sending best practice guidance for implementing Section 9 of President Biden's Executive Order on Promoting Access to Voting to the Bureau of Prisons (BOP).

LWVUS urges the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to take additional measures to reduce methane air pollution from the oil and gas industry.

The League joined 115 other organizations in urging Congress to respect local decisions made by the people of the District of Columbia and their elected leadership. The letter strongly opposes any legislative vehicle that overrides, limits or otherwise usurps locally elected decision-making by the District of Columbia.
