“We were disappointed that the President failed to mention climate change as one of the causes of extreme weather," said President MacNamara.

Gathering state and local election officials along with nonprofit partners, the LWVNJ recognized the hard work, dedication and community spirit that prevailed after Hurricane Sandy ripped through the state last fall.

"After an unprecedented shuffling of state election laws to help those impacted by Hurricane Sandy get to the polls, Election Day isn’t over in New Jersey, as tens of thousands of voters have until Friday night to return ballots cast by email and fax."

Last week we shared updates on changes in voting procedures in the many states affected by Hurricane Sandy.

"Last week, Essex County Clerk Chris Durkin assured residents they would be able to vote regardless of power outages left in Hurricane Sandy's wake. Voters can vote early, by mail, and can even go directly to the clerk’s office, 465 Martin Luther King Blvd. in Newark, to pick up a mail-in ballot application. Deadline to vote via mail-in ballot is 3 p.m. Monday. ...Displaced voters can also vote electronically by submitting a mail-in ballot application by email or face to their county clerk, according to the[NJ] League of Women Voters."

"Kerry Margaret Butch, the Executive Director of the League of Women Voters of New Jersey, says, “People can vote by mail – they can actually go to their County Clerk’s office right now – during the hours that they’re open – and vote in person right now, and that vote will count…You don’t have to wait till election day, you can do it right now…anybody who wants to vote in the state of New Jersey is going to be able to participate.” ... Butch adds, “Don’t panic...if anybody has any questions about anything, they can give us a call at 1-800-792- VOTE…the League of Women Voters is going to be here to make sure that everyone who wants to vote gets the right to vote.”
