The following is a joint statement from LWVUS CEO Celina Stewart and LWV Florida co-presidents Cecilie Scoon and Debbie Chandler:
“News of another assassination attempt on former President Trump near his home in Florida is alarming. There is no place for violence in American politics and the League of Women Voters condemns political violence.
“Every candidate and political staffer should be free to carry out their campaign work without the threat of gun violence, and every voter has the right to make their voices heard at the ballot box without fear or intimidation. This latest attempted attack is a reminder that the threat of gun violence is still present in the United States, which tragically impacts people and communities across the country every day.
“We believe our democratic election process must be upheld through peaceful discourse and respect for the rule of law, and we condemn all acts of violence.”
