The League calls on Congress to include at least $2 billion for election funding in COVID-19 (cornoavirus) stimulus package

LWVUS sent a memo to the U.S. House and Senate urging them to support policies for communities, families, and workers experiencing hardship during the coronavirus pandemic on March 13, 2020. LWVUS has also continued to join with partners on letters to the Congress during this time.

In response to the COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic disrupting primary elections, the League urges the national bodies of our political parties to speak for flexibility in upcoming primaries.

The League of Women Voters of Ohio filed an amicus brief in the case Ex Rel. Ohio Democratic Party v. Frank LaRose. The case concerns when and how to conduct Ohio’s rescheduled primary election in light of last week’s postponement due to COVID-19.

Voting amid the coronavirus has highlighted the need for expanding the vote-by-mail process. Celina Stewart, LWVUS senior director of advocacy and litigation, contributes.

Congress must provide states with the funds they need to protect the right to vote amid COVID-19 in the economic stimulus package.

The League of Women Voters of Ohio, along with other voting rights partners, sent a letter to Ohio Secretary State Frank LaRose demanding that changes to the Primary Election calendar comply with the National Voter Registration Act and the Ohio Constitution.

The League joined over 200 organizations supporting an effort led by the Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights urging federal lawmakers and state elections officials to adopt key policies to ensure both the public’s safety and the orderly conduct of the 2020 primary and general elections in light of the current threat posed by COVID-19.

We commend Ohio leaders for recommending tomorrow’s in-person primary election be postponed until June and expanding absentee ballot options for all Ohio voters.
