The League joined partners expressing support for H.J. Res. 90, a Congressional Review Act resolution of disapproval that will nullify a rulemaking by the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) that, if allowed to stand, would drastically undermine one of our nation’s most important civil rights laws, the Community Reinvestment Act of 1977 (the CRA).
 

The League joined coalition partners calling for passage of H.R.51, the Washington DC Admission Act. This legislation passed the U.S. House on June 26, 2020.

The League joined allies on a letter urging Senators to vote NO on a motion to proceed to the JUSTICE Act.

Earlier this week, LWVUS signed onto a letter addressing Congressional leadership on the deployment of federal troops to the District of Columbia against protestors. 

The league joins several public health organizations in expressing concern on the decision of the United States government to terminate its relationship with the World Health Organization.

LWVUS joined hundreds of organizations, including many of our partners, in requesting that the United Nations hold a special session on the escalation of police violence in the United States and repression of protestors.  

The League joined letters to the Department of Justice calling on investigations into the circumstances surrounding the killings of Breonna Taylor and George Floyd.

League Supports CORE Act (Legal Document)

LWVUS joined a coalition of groups supporting the Coronavirus Oversight and Recovery Ethics Act (CORE Act).

LWVUS joined a letter with over 400 civil rights organizations calling on Congress to implement needed policing reforms. 

LWVEF joined the Census Counts campaign and the 143 undersigned organizations urging the Census Bureau to closely examine its adjusted operational timeline and advocate for enhancements to address the severe disruption the COVID-19 crisis has caused for successful completion of the 2020 Census.
