LWVUS joined the Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights and 112 organizations urging the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) to open a full and thorough hate crimes investigation into the horrific killing of Ahmaud Arbery.

The League joined a letter drafted on behalf of the National Council of Asian Pacific Americans (NCAPA), the Democracy Initiative, and more than 150 undersigned organizations to denounce the continued increase in racist attacks and discrimination against the Asian American community.

LWVUS has actively been supporting additional measures for inclusion in the next emergency funding stimulus bills related to the coronavirus. 

The League sent a memo to Congress urging them to include policies in the next COVID-19 stimulus bill that that will protect our elections, protect all families regardless of immigration status, and re-classify the District of Columbia, while continuing to help families, communities, and workers facing hardship due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The League joined 56 civil rights and worker rights organizations expressing deep concern about the U.S. Department of Labor Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs’ (OFCCP) March 17, 2020 decision to temporarily exempt and waive certain affirmative action obligations connected to supply, service, and construction federal contracts specifically to provide coronavirus relief. 

The League joined a letter led by OCA-Asian Pacific American Advocates and 186 other organizations calling on President Trump, Attorney General Barr, and FBI Director Christopher Wray, to publicly recognize and denounce the increasing racist attacks and discrimination against the Asian American community, in the wake of rising concerns over the Coronavirus Disease of 2019 (COVID-19).

LWVUS sent a memo to the U.S. House and Senate urging them to support policies for communities, families, and workers experiencing hardship during the coronavirus pandemic on March 13, 2020. LWVUS has also continued to join with partners on letters to the Congress during this time.

In response to the COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic disrupting primary elections, the League urges the national bodies of our political parties to speak for flexibility in upcoming primaries.

Congress must provide states with the funds they need to protect the right to vote amid COVID-19 in the economic stimulus package.

The League joined over 200 organizations supporting an effort led by the Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights urging federal lawmakers and state elections officials to adopt key policies to ensure both the public’s safety and the orderly conduct of the 2020 primary and general elections in light of the current threat posed by COVID-19.
