National Voter Registration Act (NVRA)

In celebration of the 24th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), here are just a few ways the League works to ensure equal access to the ballot for Americans with disabilities.

Have you registered to vote or updated your voter registration at your local Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) or another public government agency? Then you have the National Voter Registration Act (NVRA) to thank for that!

Graduation is a major milestone. We want to help recent graduates become active and engaged members of their new communities – help us encourage them to register to vote!

The National Voter Registration Act requires public assistance agencies to provide voter registration opportunities to applicants, and the Health Benefit Exchanges are public assistance agencies.

The League joined with Demos, Project Vote and allied groups to urge the Obama Administration to fully implement the National Voter Registra

The League joined with our voting rights partners to file an appeal challenging the ruling in Kobach v. EAC. We’ve also filed a motion to stay to prevent Kansas and Arizona from requiring documentary proof of citizenship in the interim.

The League filed a motion to stay a decision of the District Court of Kansas pending an appeal in the case of Kobach v. U.S. Election Assistance Commission.

In a big win for voters, a U.S. Court of Appeals ruled that Florida’s plan to purge voters before the 2012 elections was prohibited by the National Voter Registration Act. 

A district court issued a ruling that approves the documentary proof of citizenship requirement for voter registration by Arizona and Kansas.

A U.S. District Court heard arguments to determine if the Election Assistance Commission's refusal to modify the National Mail Voter Registration Form was legal.
