Expanding Voter Access

This morning, I joined with other voting rights leaders at a press conference to urge Congress to begin moving the bipartisan Voting Rights Amendment Act by holding a hearing in the House Judiciary Committee.

The League continues efforts to restore the Voting Rights Act with a letter to the House of Representatives.

May 1 was Law Day, a day to reflect on the law's its importance to American society. This year’s theme - American Democracy and the Rule of Law: Why Every Vote Matters – was particularly relevant for us.

The League joined with our voting rights partners to file an appeal challenging the ruling in Kobach v. EAC. We’ve also filed a motion to stay to prevent Kansas and Arizona from requiring documentary proof of citizenship in the interim.

I was thrilled to visit with over 100 students visiting Washington, D.C. through the Close Up Foundation to help explain how the League of Women Voters advocates on public policy issues at the federal, state and local levels.

The League filed a motion to stay a decision of the District Court of Kansas pending an appeal in the case of Kobach v. U.S. Election Assistance Commission.
