The League joined a letter lead by the Indigenous Environmental Network urging the President and Vice President to shut down the Dakota Access Pipeline (DAPL) .

The League of Women of the United States president Dr. Deborah Ann Turner issued the following statement in response to President Biden’s Executive Orders on Climate Change.

LWVUS sent a letter of support endorsing Senator Manchin’s Revitalizing the Economy of Coal Communities by Leveraging Local Activities and Investing More (RECLAIM) Act to recover and reinvest in Appalachian communities. 

LWVUS stood with Members of Congress and the Children’s Fundamental Rights and Climate Recovery Resolution as it was introduced on September 23, 2020.

The League joined a letter with other environmental partners in support of H.R. 2, the Moving Forward Act. This legislation is a bold infrastructure plan that will transform our transportation systems, transition the nation to cleaner sources of energy,  invest in clean and safe water, protect workers, preserve nature, and address the challenges from a changing climate to our communities.

2020 marks 50 years of celebrating Earth Day, a day meant to generate action to protect the planet.

LWVUS has actively been supporting additional measures for inclusion in the next emergency funding stimulus bills related to the coronavirus. 

The League submitted a its own comment letter and joined a coalition letter urging the Council on Environmental Quality (CEQ) to withdraw proposed changes to the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA). 

Throughout 2019 the League defended democracy in the courts on issues relating to voting rights, redistricting, money in politics, and improving elections.

We were proud to take part in one of the largest global protests in history. Children of all ages filled the lawn of the Capitol and the surrounding avenues, practicing their first amendment rights.
