Fighting Voter Suppression

The League and members of the Declaration for American Democracy Coalition sent a joint statement from diverse groups to the Senate Judiciary Committee in support of HR1, the For the People Act.
 

The state of Texas' announcement that it was flagging tens of thousands of registered voters for citizenship checks was met with dismay among civil rights attorneys and voting rights advocates, who said it echoed efforts around the country to remove eligible voters from the rolls.

Members of the LWVUS Lobby Corps visited members of the U.S. House urging them to support HR1, the For the People Act.

The League sent a letter to members of the U.S. House of Representatives addressing HR1 as the bill needed to heal our country.

The LWVNC v. Rucho case is a partisan gerrymandering challenge to the North Carolina congressional map. Partisan gerrymandering is the practice of drawing electoral district lines in a way that discriminates against a political party.

After the 2018 election, the outgoing WI legislature called a special session and passed several bills aimed at undermining the new governor. LWVWI sued, contending that the session was unconstitutional.

U.S. House leadership unveiled a democracy reform bill, HR1 (the For the People Act), that will make elections fairer and put power back in the hands of the American people. 

The Supreme Court will hear arguments in a challenge to North Carolina’s 2016 congressional redistricting plan, one of the most egregious partisan gerrymanders in U.S. history.
