Online Voter Registration
The League was pleased to join dozens of voting rights advocates, state and local elections officials, congressional staff and academics at last week’s 2015 Voting and Elections Summit in Washington D.C.
Online voter registration is taking hold across the country. But there is a fundamental problem. Virtually every system adopted leaves out a significant and important part of the population – citizens who don’t have a driver’s license or non-driver’s ID.
This morning, the Presidential Commission on Election Administration (PCEA) will present their report to a Senate Rules and Administration Committee hearing. The League submitted testimony to PCEA that urged consideration of a five-point reform agenda as part of its recommendations.
“There are many good recommendations in this report and others that we will need to look at more closely to examine the real impact on American voters,” said League President Elisabeth MacNamara.
The League once again calls on the President and the nation's new elections commission to make bold changes to make elections free, fair and accessible.
