The League of Women Voters is observing the 5th anniversary of Citizens United with a renewed resolve to limit the influence of money in politics.

I worked with the Election Protection Hotline to help voters rectify the issues they faced when attempting to vote. This experience showed how far we have to go to have fair elections.

Now is the time to start thinking about how and when you’ll vote. In addition to getting ready to vote as you have in years past, voters in many states may also need to show voter identification in order to cast a ballot.

Yesterday, on National Voter Registration Day, in New York City and at hundreds of events around the country, League members reminded Americans that every election is important and that voter registration deadlines are rapidly approaching.

Earlier this month, we attended a panel on the Democracy Restoration Act, a bill that would allow those released from prison to regain their right to vote in federal elections.

Like the Florida League, Leagues across the country are seeking solutions to the issue of redistricting and gerrymandered Congressional districts.

“This decision gives us a new tool to fight partisan gerrymandering,” said President MacNamara.

A Florida judge ruled the state's congressional district map invalid Thursday night, saying it violates constitutional provisions that require fair districts and instead favors Republicans.

Florida’s congressional redistricting map, which opponents including the League of Women Voters said favors Republicans, was found by a judge to violate the state’s constitution and must be changed
