Fighting Voter Suppression

LWV of Wisconsin filed suit in federal court to reinstate more than 31,000 registered Wisconsin voters who were purged from the voter rolls in July 2021.

As the late, great civil rights activist Bob Moses, who passed this last April, said, “Do what you think actually needs to be done, set an example, and hope your actions will click with someone else.” This year, you did what needed to be done, setting the stage for an even more dynamic 2022. 

Today, voting rights groups announced a major expanded effort to drive thousands of calls daily to the White House to urge President Biden to lead on voting rights by urging the Senate to fix or nix the filibuster and pass voting rights protections immediately.

Right now, our country can advance and protect our right to vote by passing the Freedom to Vote Act, the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act, and DC Statehood. While these bills ensure a democracy that works for us all, all we have seen is stagnation in the Senate due to the Jim Crow Era filibuster.

On November 3rd, the Supreme Court heard oral arguments in the case of New York State Rifle and Pistol Association v Bruen, marking one of the first times that the Supreme Court will address the scope of the 2nd amendment since 2008. Their decision will hav a significant impact on election safety. 

Over 200 activists were arrested outside of the White House advocating for President Biden to act on voting rights. 

Hundreds of voting rights activists escalated demands for the White House to act on voting rights today, in an action that resulted in the arrests of more than 200 participants.

The League of Women Voters of North Carolina (LWVNC), along with partners, asked to intervene in a lawsuit designed to purge eligible voters from the voter rolls in 40 North Carolina counties.
